In fact, the addition of the silk fabric elevates this to another level and can be used as a formal jacket. The silk gives all the luxury, dressed-up effect that you would need to give off the impression of a black-tie look.

I remember (unfortunately!) the 90s when I thought I was so so cool with my baggy jeans. They were beyond baggy - I had a 24" waist and I wore 32" jeans. I literally looked like the road-sweeping machines; the ones with the big brushes that sweep leaves off the sidewalks, because my jeans were literally sweeping the floors. Kris Van Assche had big shoes to fill when he first joined Dior Homme. I adored the work Hedi Slimane did for Dior Homme and I wondered about Kris' ability to bridge the void left after the departure of Hedi but Kris Van Assche has gone from strength to strength season after season. I do find myself lusting after a few key pieces every season. 

He shared with Details his 10 rules of style and some of them hit close to home. Here are some highlights:

"I don't really think I know a man who wouldn't look good in black. Black is always good. It's the basic." Black is my default choice. It hides stains, slims the silhouette, goes with everything - I could go on and on. 

"My grandmother told me there are two ways of living: You can either survive or you can really make a life. There is eating and there is dining. She would always give that extra little effort, and I still believe that is important--to make things more beautiful makes all the difference." Someone important once told me to grab life by the balls and to focus on things that are in my control. It is one adage that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

I've seen my fair share of two-in-one clothing pieces. Back in the day when cargo pants were really all the rage, there were sea of cargo pants and shorts combo. The ones where you could zip off the lower half to wear as shorts or zip up to wear as pants. I remember wearing a nylon track-pants that unzipped to become a pair of shorts camping once. It was baggy and stretchy and just wrong. 

I forgot all about zippered two-in-one pieces until I saw this wonderful pair. This convertible high top sneakers zips off to reveal a pair of boat shoes or everyday sneakers. The zipper portion that is left when the high top is detached adds a sliver of cool detail that you don't see on many sneakers. 

The hand made leather is luxourious and the red/white strips on the sides give this a nautical feel-good vibe. I just love how versatile this is - it's like buying two pair for the price of one! The best is, it looks fantastic worn both ways so it leaves you spoiled for choice. That's always a plus in my book.

Besides color contrast, another detail I like a lot is fabric contrast. So when a piece combines two of my favorite kinds of detail into one shirt, I am sold. This white shirt immediately hits you by way of the jet black felt placket. The contrast provided is rich and I just can't stop looking at this. 

The white cotton brings out the black felt and though you can't see it from the pictures here, the felt fabric pops up against the cotton of the shirt. This is simple, classic and a piece that won't go out of style. Black and white combinations have been done and manipulated for years and years and this will stand the test of time.

The heart is a wonderful organ and I remember Anatomy lectures where pig hearts were displayed and observed. The heart is known to be center of your being and the life source that contains essence of soul and vigor. So might argue that maybe the heart's not so important and instead, more attention to be paid to the sex organs since after all, they are responsible for creating life. But in movies and comics, you see refrences to killing a demon or monster via the heart and instructions to rip the heart out of its cage. For example, Sam Merlotte ripped the heart out of the crazy Maynard in the True Blood Season 2 (I dig dig dig that show).  I don't see characters and heroes ripping off penises... So the heart stays the source of life. 

But I digress. I get it that the heart is very important but do you really need to carry it as a purse on your arm?! I mean look at this - you can't put a lot in this heart so where are you going to carry this? To high tea get-togethers? To buy frozen yogurt? To Starbucks? 

It's the idea of a black heart dangling off a man's arm that is a tad unnerving. I am sure this piece will find fans in members of the goth movement. The thing is, I really get this piece but I just don't see how it can be incorporated into an everyday wardrobe unless you are Marilyn Manson but even then, he's got an entourage to hold his ID and loose change.
