Maison Martin Margiela 10 - Square Neck Sweater
Maison Martin Margiela 10 - Square Neck Sweater back
Sweaters - like V-neck ones, are one of the essential pieces in a wardrobe. Like white shirts, sweaters go with most everything and will serve you round all year round.

If you're a little tired of the classic V-neck design and want something different but yet clean and sophisticated at the same time, then my vote is for this square neck piece.

The square neck gives this a modern touch that will look great worn over a shirt or on its own. The lightweight wool and soft cotton blend makes this perfect for all year round wear. The grey shade is a classic standard and will never go out of style or look out of place.

I remember my first Sony Walkman - I got it when I was 9 and I thought it was the bomb and I would take it everywhere. Of course, I had to carry around 5 different tapes for variety but I remembered thinking that it was all so cool. It was cool until the film of my tapes got tangled and jumbled, then it was just game over for me. I was good at fast-forwarding and back-tracking to specific songs and I did it so much that I worn out all my tapes. Gosh, how did we ever cope without the repeat function?

R.E.M frontman, Michael Stipe, who also happened to write several soundtracks of my youth, played designer for Maison Martin Margiela. The result is a highly versatile, cassette-tape inspired piece. It can be worn or used according to your mood - on your wrist one day, tied to your boots the next, worn as a necklace or used to hold your keys. Plenty of possibilities.

This cool, limited-edition piece (only 199 made) comes with a handmade notebook individually numbered and personally signed by Michael Stipe. I'll go all the way to Reno for one of this......

Martin Margiela Zip Trim Coin Purse
Martin Margiela Zip Trim Coin Purse back
I usually throw my coins around or change them all into notes. I am not a big fan of coins and I try to get rid of them as often as I can. Or I just keep them in the coin pocket on my jeans but unfortunately, some of my jeans have only 4 pockets and I skip carrying change all together then.

That said, I know a lot of people who carry around coin pouches and they seem to have that part of their life in order. Maybe I should take a note out of their book. This coin purse from Maison Margiela caught my eye and I am liking clean, sleek lines and zipper detail.

The multiple zipper detail is done right and with the black contrast zip - there is a zing to this purse. And the sole zipper on the back means you can reach your coins with ease from all direction.

The white is pristine and it's not a good idea for someone clumsy like me but I know a few people who would appreciate this. Get this Martin Margiela Zip Trim Coin Purse for US$160.87 at Diabro.
Maison Martin Margiela book
Maison Martin Margiela is coming to a book store near you. Set to be released sometime next month, this starched white muslin book will contain shots of his illusive career. With contributions from fashion luminaries such as Jean Paul Gaultier and Carine Roitfeld, this book will also showcase Maison Margiela's forward-moving and often avant garde exhibitions.

With his furniture line and now this book, Maison Margiela is slowly but surely making his way not just to your wardrobe but your book-shelf and your home. That works for me - I could always use more Margiela in my life.

I travel quite often - monthly to be specific and dashing through airports, hotels and apartments can be more fun if I have my things in order. I throw them all in my trusty laptop bag and I've had it for years and it's been everywhere with me. So it's always stuffed and I am always digging through it which isn't very productive if the customs officer is tapping his knuckles on the immigration desk.

This long wallet will come in handy. I can store my cards, cash, flight printouts, coupons etc. I love the vintage strap elastic closure. It reminds of those notebooks back in the day where they were tied together.

The glazed sheen of this wallet adds to the charm of this piece and it's one of those leather pieces that will look better with age. It's spacious enough to allow you to chuck your passport in which makes this even more useful.

I am a huge fan of Maison Martin Margiela's work. He's a visionary and very forward. I admire his aesthetic and sense of individualism.

That said, however, there are some pieces of his that make me scratch my head. Like this one. I dig its sci-fi vibe and influence but it's just unwearable. And I don't think it's flattering at all - no matter how great your features are.

It's too wide and it's too tall and unless you're really blessed with chiseled, angular features - this won't be feasible at all. Really cool but just not as wearable. Or maybe I am just not cool enough for this but I prefer to think the former than the latter....
